Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has officially received the 2017 Budget Appropriation Bill from the National Assembly.

It was delivered Friday by Senator Ita Solomon Enang, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters.

The delivery of the critical document was confirmed by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant-Media & Publicity to the Acting President, via his twitter handle.

He said “2017 Budget -Appropriations bill now officially received in the Acting President’s office & undergoing very prompt & diligent consideration.”

The issue of who will sign the bill into Law  in the absence of  President Buhari who is presently receiving medical attention in Britain  had dominated public discourse lately especially against the background of statements credited to Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and Senator Enang.

Mohammed had been quoted as saying he did not know who would sign the budget bill while Enang had been reported as saying the document would be sent to the President for his assent.

Both officials promptly denied that they said what had been credited to them.

The anxiety had been heightened by reports of a cabal operating in the presidency which is said to be usurping the functions of the Acting President.

Now that the budget bill as passed by the National Assembly is before the Acting President,  Nigerians    wait anxiously for what would become of it, especially also as Laolu Akande has assured that it is  “undergoing very prompt & diligent consideration.”

Will he assent to it as passed? Will he veto all of it or aspects of it? Nigerians, and indeed, the whole world watches with keen interest.
