Bauchi state Governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar has presented a budget proposal of 145,447,258,160 billion Naira to the state House of Assembly for the 2017 fiscal year.
The budget proposal, tagged ‘Budget of Sustainable Development’ consists of recurrent expenditure of N58,845,256,77 representing 40 percent, and a 60 percent Capital expenditure of N86,602,02,86 billion.
According to him. the 2017 budget will ensure that fiscal policies including all revenue projections reflect the state’s economic status vis-a-vis the national and global economy.
He said,”the budget will focus on our priority areas of health services, education, water supply, youths and women empowerment and infrastructural development.
Government is implementing the National Policy guideline for Primary Healthcare under one roof. Consequently, government has again allocated over 16% of the budget to the health sub-sector,
Speaking on ongoing projects in the 2016 budget, the governor assured that all the projects will be completed while the new ones in the 2017 budget are expected to be adequately executed for the development of the state.
Governor Abubakar said the total actual Recurrent Revenue budgeted was N75,073,911,861, the actual amount recorded as at 31st October, was N33,704,285,352.60.
N64,895,109,167 was also budgeted as Recurrent expenditure in the 2016 budget but only N36,153,554,411.58 was actually incurred as at 31st October 2016,he added
He added that projected capital receipt also fell short of the N59,400,767,678 as only N22,937146091.64 was realised within the period.
According him, the actual expenditure was N11,341,949,057.37 while N70,407,990,843 was projected.
The governor said “this has largely been applied towards the completion of ongoing important projects and the execution of new projects in Health, Education, Roads Construction and water supply. We are hopeful that this performance will improve as a lot of commitments by the government have been redeemed”.
In his address, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Kawuwa Shehu Damina said that 2017 budget will go a long way in further improving the standard of the people of Bauchi state.
