Every year, afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti‘s birthday is recognized globally with annual Felabrations honouring the musician’s extraordinary life and career.
This year, London will be hosting its Late at the Library: Felabration! at the atrium of the British Library led by Dele Sosimi and his 16-man afrobeat orchestra.
The extensive line-up also includes afrobeat trailblazer and former Fela’s drummer Tony Allen, contemporary music star 2 Face Idibia, Laura Mvula, Shingai Shoniwa, The Floacist, United Kingdom rapper Afrikan Boy, and many others.
The event will take place on Friday, October 16 and will mark the opening of the British Museum’s West Africa: Word, Symbol, Song exhibition.
The celebration will kick-off an eventful weekend at the British Library, where a screening of the documentary Finding Fela will also take place, followed by artist talks from Tony Allen, Dele Sosimi, 2 Face Idibia, and Lemi Ghariokwu, the artist behind some of Fela’s most memorable album covers.
