AAG 2015: Dream Team, Super Falcons advance to s/finals

Nigeria’s senior female national side, the Falcons have qualified for the semi-finals of the female football event of the All Africa Games after defeating Tanzania 3-0, Wednesday.

Buoyed by their 4-1 annihilation of hosts Congo, the Chris Danjuma tutored side signalled their intention of picking the gold medal by thumping the east African side.

Desire Oparanozie who added two more goals to her 2015 All-Africa Games tally by scoring a brace in the first half of the game.

Esther Sunday got Nigeria’s third goal in the second half of the encounter dominated by Nigeria even though it could have been more if not the Falcon being profligate in front of goal.

In the other group game, hosts Congo lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast which means they have been eliminated from the competition after losing to Nigeria in their first group game.

The Falcons will now play their last group game against the Ivory Coast on Saturday as they aim to pick the gold medal of the women football event at the All Africa Games taking place in Brazzaville, Congo.

Meanwhile, the national U23 side, the Dream Team also defeated West African rivals, Ghana 2-0 to firm their foot in the semi-finals of the men’s football event of the quadrennial multiple sports showpiece in the Central African state.

The Under-23 side will return to training, Thursday to prepare for its second and last group game against Senegal coming up, Saturday.
