The Airtel One Mic Volume 1, an 11-track album, featuring top Nigerian artistes like Tuface, Reminisce, Illbliss, Patoranking, Vector and Phyno was unveiled at a colourful event in Lagos. It was performed by the four Nigerian students who emerged winners in Airtel One Mic music talent hunt show organised for music talents in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Acetune and other One Mic stars namely; Bukola Ogunbodede a.k.a Zorah, Alalade Uthman a.k.a Jay Dreamz and Ekundayo Monja a.k.a L.A.S.E were excited to be in the limelight courtesy of Airtel One Mic platform.

Speaking on the tracks in the album, Acetune said, “I have two great tracks in the album, the first one is ‘Greenlight’ which I featured a top-rated hip-hop star Vector. I also have another track I did with Jay Dreamz titled; ‘If you see my Mama.’ I must say working on the Airtel One Mic volume 1 album gave us this unique privilege to hone our skills.

“Words can really describe what I feel right now. I am so happy and grateful to God. This is awesome for me because this is one of the biggest platforms in the country right now, a platform to be launched into the Nigerian music industry. Not just as a C-list artiste but a big-time artiste.

Having the privilege to perform with biggest stars in Nigeria’s music industry, and having them guide and mentor me is such an opportunity. You need to know what it takes to thrive and succeed in the industry because it is very competitive.”

Acetune, who hails from Bayelsa State, was born and bred in Ajegunle, Lagos. While relating his background he said: “My family later moved to Abuja where I grew up. Then we moved to Niger State. I went to secondary school in Port Harcourt and was in Bayelsa as well. But much later I went back to Port Harcourt to study music in University of Port Harcourt.

I represented the school in the One Mic competition.

“The Airtel One Mic talent hunt show gave me the chance to showcase myself and be discovered. I feel blessed. I thank Airtel Nigeria so much for giving me this opportunity. The company has positively impacted on the lives of youths. I am also grateful to my friends and fans. I give all the glory to God. I want to put all I have into this and pray to get the best out of it and make impact in the industry.”

While speaking on the support he gets from his family, he explained that “my Dad used to be in the entertainment industry so he has been there for me from day one. And my mum as well has been there for me, but at the beginning my Mum really didn’t really think I should pursue the career. However, right now everybody supports me in it.

“Interestingly, I have been to several parts of Nigeria. I have lived in Akwa Ibom, I have been touring Nigeria. Apart from singing I dance, I draw, I like to travel and I like to entertain people in different ways. I like rice. I like Afam and vegetable. I like Amala,” he said.

The whole world awaits me,’ says One Mic Star, Zorah

Bukola Ogunbodede a.k.a Zorah featured Phyno in ‘Hustle’ and performed ‘Jolomi’ alone in her two tracks in the star-studded One Mic album. She is the only lady among the four One Mic winners launched into Nigeria’s music industry recently at the Airtel One Mic All-Stars Album launch. The Theatre Arts graduate of University of Ibadan spoke on her plans.

In excitement Zorah said: “I am very happy that my dreams are becoming a reality. And that it is getting bigger beyond my imagination. Before I was discovered through the Airtel One Mic I had wanted to be a performer the whole world would know through performance just like Michael Jackson, a kind of singer that would last. I am very grateful to Airtel for creating the Airtel One Mic which gave this opportunity. I would say I found favour from God not because I am perfect, but I know hard work and prayer got me this far.

“I aim to make music that will make people identify with me and my personality and to make people get to know me. To make great music and become an artiste whose fame would go beyond Nigeria and Africa, to reach the whole world.

“I look forward to the American Grammy in the future. I deeply thank Airtel for putting a smile on my face and giving me hope through the One Mic platform, despite the struggle I am now seeing light at the end of the tunnel. I am very grateful.

“My parents don’t have problem with my music career as long as I have understand what I want to do and making positive impact in my life. I not a food person but I like Amala because it digests easily.”
