The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has alleged that the Rivers State Government and the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) have set aside the sum of N2billion for the purpose of bribing members of the 2015 Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal to give judgment against the PDP and the Governor-elect of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike.
The State Government, the PDP also alleged, has approved the sum of N2.5 billion for the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISIEC) to conduct the controversial local government elections being planned by the APC government of Gov. Chibuike Amaechi.
These allegations are contained in a statement issued by Mr. Emma Okah, Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the PDP Campaign Organisation in Rivers State.
According to the PDP, Governor Chibuike Amaechi gave directives to this effect in a meeting he held with officials of the state government at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja recently.
The statement said that ‘the huge sum of money earmarked for these activities must be the reason why Governor Amaechi and the APC in Rivers State have been boasting that the Governor-elect will be removed from office soon after inauguration.’
Okah, a former Commissioner for Information in the state, further stressed that it was wrong for the State Governor to set aside such an amount of money to ‘induce Tribunal members and organise local government elections so close to the end of his tenure when pensioners in the state have been crying over unpaid arrears of their pensions and salaries, when allowances of civil servants have remained unpaid and when uncompleted projects litter the state.’
