His Excellency Governor Mohammed A. Abubakar attended the Janaza of Alhaji Dr. Kabiru Umar, the 89 year old Emir of Katagum who died after a protracted illness.
A statement by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, SA Communications to His Excellency the Governor of Bauchi State, said that thousands of Nigerians from within and outside the state attended the funeral including representatives of President Muhammadu Buhari, Emirs, Governors, top government officials and well wishers and family members of the late Emir.
Prominent among the dignitaries that witnessed the funeral were, Representatives of the President comprising Chief of Staff to the President Alhaji Abba Kyari, Customs boss, Col. Hamidu Ali (rtd), Minister of the FCT Alhaji Muhammad Bello, Governors Kashim Shettima of Borno State, Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, their Royal Highnesses Alhaji Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu of Bauchi, Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Suleiman of Misau, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman of Dass, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II of Kano and several other Emirs from within and outside the state.
Top officials of the Bauchi State Government were also in attendance, including Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Nadada Umar, Head of Service Alhaji Liman Bello, Chief of Staff Government House Bauchi Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, Hon. Members of the State and National Assembly from the state and a host of others.
His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II led the Janaza prayer.
In a personal message posted, Bauchi State Governor, Barrister Mohammed A. Abubakar described the late Emir as someone who was “upright, just and kept to the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)”. The Governor also described the Emir’s death as a “great loss to not just our state but also the Nation.”
