Boko Haram Commander surrenders to Police in Borno

A high profile Boko Haram insurgents’ member, Ibrahim Dala (alias Abu Ali), formerly of Kawar Mela ward, Maiduguri along with 13 others and their families have surrendered to the intelligence arm of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Borno state command.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Borno state command DSP Victor Isuku in a press statement issued to newsmen in Maiduguri said  “the Counter terrorism efforts of the Nigerian military, code named “Operation Safe Corridor ” recorded another victory with the unconditional surrender to the Police by high profile repentant  Boko Haram  terrorists.
“On 10/9/2017, at about 2100hrs, the intelligence arm of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the command, were able to negotiate the peaceful surrender of repentant Boko Haram terrorists with their families. One Ibrahim Dala (alias Abu Ali), formerly of Kawar Mela ward, Maiduguri, an Amir (commander) of the Mamman Nur faction, along with Audu Mustapha Bukar, ‘m’ 20 years and Laminu Mustapha Modu, ‘m’ 25 years, all residing at Talala insurgents camp in Sambisa forest, surrendered themselves unconditionally to Borno state police command. Audu Mustapha Bukar and Laminu Mustapha Modu, both of whom are from Ngallamari village, claimed to have been held hostage by the sect sometime ago and were conscripted into the sect”, DSP Isuku stated.
Others include, Alhaji Ali ‘m’, 25 years of Alagarno village, Abubakar Mele ‘m’, 30 years of Yasko village, Modu Umar ‘m’, 20 yearrs of Bursum village, Modu Maina ‘m’, 15 yearrs of Bursum village, Ali Kolo ‘m’, 20 years of Alagarno village, Bintu Abukar ‘f’, 14 years of Yasko village.
Among their family members were Falmata Abukar ‘f’, 15 years of Yasko village, Hauwa Ali ‘f’ 15 years of Alagarno village, Husam Ali ‘f’ 14 years of Alagarno village, Mallam Modu ‘f’ 16 years of Bursum village and five children between the ages of 1 year and 8 years old.
The command said the surrendered insurgents have since made useful statements that are assisting the security operatives in the counter Insurgency campaign, adding that presently, they’re undergoing preliminary profiling preparatory to transfer to the military.
In a related development, the Police has also rescued 13 abducted victims from the Boko Haram insurgents in Kamuya village around Yadin Buni general area.
Also confirming the rescued, DSP Isuku said “on the 19/8/2017, the Area Commander Biu, reported a case of abduction of six (6) children i.e four (4) males and two (2) females.”
“The Command striking unit (SARS)  and a team of investigators were promptly dispatched to the area. The said deployment and the use of undercover operatives led to the arrest of five (5) persons who made confessional statements and revealed the location where the abducted children were kept”, the spokesman said.
He said “on the 8/9/2017,through community policing partnership and networking,  the Command with local hunters and vigilante members dominated the hostage scene and after about an hour’s gun battle with the hoodlums in the forest, near Kumaya village in Buni Yadi general area of Yobe state, the following arrests, rescues and recoveries were made”:
Two (2) of the hoodlums died following injuries sustained in the gun battle, while two (2) AK47 rifles used by the hoodlums were recovered.
He added that the six (6) earlier abducted victims were rescued in addition to Seven (7) other abducted persons, bringing the total number of persons rescued to thirteen (13).
He, however, said two (2) members of the search party were injured in the course of the exchange of fire but are, however, responding to treatment and are in stable condition.
He said the thirteen (13) rescued victims were formally handed over to His Excellency, Alhaji Mamman Durkwa, Deputy Governor of Borno state on Wednesday at the Government house.
