British Council awards N7.3m research grant to 4 Nigerian lecturers

THE British Council in Nigeria, Sunday, said it had awarded N7.3 million research grants to four Nigerian university lecturers.

This was contained in a statement issued in Lagos by the council’s Communications Manager, Mr Desmond Omovie.

According to the statement, the award was issued through the Researcher Links travel grants.

The statement listed the beneficiaries as Dr Anozoeze Madu and Dr Vincent Chigor, all of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Dr Rowland Kayode and Dr Temilade Sesan of the Universities of Ilorin and Ibadan, respectively.

It explained that the grant was to assist the lecturers undertake various research work that would meet the developmental goal of Nigeria.

“The awardees will be supported by established researchers in the United Kingdom (UK), with proposed activity, selected on the basis of mutual benefit.

“It would equally be tied to research quality and potential for sustained interaction,” it said.

The statement further explained that contributing to capacity building of individual researchers and research groups was part of the objectives of the grant.

The Researcher Links initiative encourages outward and inward mobility to enable early career researchers to make contacts internationally.
