It turned out to be a gathering of who-is-who in the Nigerian society as top dignitaries turned up en mass to support the governor of Edo State, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, who wedded his Cape Verdean bride, Lara Forte, last Friday, in Auchi, in the state.
From the likes of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari; Vice President-elect, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Mrs Oludolapo Osinbajo; newly-appointed chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi; Senator Bukola Saraki, to former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, the array of personalities served to add colour to the wedding ceremony and reception in Benin, the state capital.
Last Friday, Oshiomhole has married former Miss Lara Forte, from the Cape Verde, five years after he lost his wife, Clara, to cancer.
The wedding was solemnised Friday at the marriage registry of Auchi Etsako West Local government Council of Edo state.
A reception ceremony was later held at the governor’s Iyamho country home.
Iara Forte, a former air hostess with the Emirate Airlines, is in her early thirties, aides of the governor say.
Among guests at the event were President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President-elect, Yemi Osibajo, Senator Bukola Saraki, and Director General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Asishana Okauru.
Mr. Oshiomhole lost his wife, Clara, to cancer in 2010 at age 54, and had remained single ever since.
