CAN Youth Wing, North, blasts Buhari over fuel scarcity

Dr. Ibe Kachikwu
The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the nineteen Northern States and Abuja has carpeted President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing the current fuel scarcity during this yuletide season to linger throughout the Christmas festive period.

Speaking through its Chairman in Gombe, Evangelist Musa Misal, the group said the Buhari administration has deliberately sustained the fuel scarcity to persecute the Christians into abandoning their faith through the harsh realities during this very important period for all Christians.

According to Evangelist Misal, this is one of the government’s Islamization agenda, aimed at making Nigerian Christians abandon their faith for Islam when it becomes difficult to celebrate Christmas through free movement within and into the country from abroad.

In his words, “just of recent (early December), we heard that there was a shortage of petrol. The Minister for Petroleum and the GMD of NNPC came out to say that there is enough fuel to last for December and even up to February 2018 and we wonder why this is happening now.

“Why should this thing be happening always in December? Is it because Christian brothers are celebrating their Christmas during December? So, there is sabotage by the other faith to make Christians not to have a peaceful celebration?”

He cited an example saying, “We have our brothers from different parts of the world coming home to celebrate Christmas, when they arrive Nigeria, they find it very difficult for local running because of the fuel crisis and we ask, who is fooling who between the President, the Minister of Petroleum and the NNPC GMD? We want to know who has the responsibility to tackle the situation and why it is always happening during Christmas season.”

He said, “we have many festivals in this country within the year like Sallah, Easter and the rest, but the crisis always occurs during Christmas and we the Christian youth see it as a way of bringing suffering to the Christian community or to Islamize the Christians during Christmas period or another form of jihad.

“There is a form of Jihad that when persecution comes and we are pushed to the wall, some Christians may not be able to bear it. They may say this suffering at Christmas is too much and they (‘some’, with emphasis) will deny Christ”.

He said the issues CAN (youth wing) in the North have with Mr. President is that, “he is the President of the country and the Minister of Petroleum. He has every right to control this fuel crises,” adding that ever since the announcement was made, marketers have continued to hoard the product.

“We are not going to accept this and when we are pushed to the wall, we are going out to demonstrate peacefully on the streets to say that we are not happy with what is happening.”

When asked if Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum, a Christian, could also be culpable in their allegations, Evangelist Misal had this to say: “Ibe Kachikwu is more of a remote control, he can do little or nothing except what he is asked to do by his boss, remember recently when he busted that billions of money not being accounted for by NNPC, till today nobody has said anything about it, no investigation, in fact, the Federal Government said it is a lie. So there is a big gap between Kachikwu and the GMD of NNPC”.

He said President Buhari just does not have the will to stop the scarcity because, as the President, he has all it takes to summon Kachikwu and the GMD of NNPC over the matter. “Let the President call them to order so that this nonsense can stop,” he stated.
