Following the shocking exit of the Super Eagles from the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda, more players of the squad have continued to beg Nigerians for their disastrous performance.

The Super Eagles topping Group C and needing just a draw in their last match against Guinea to qualify for the quarter finals, lost by a lone goal to crash out of the competition they were highly tipped to win.

The loss and Tunisia’s big win over Niger meant the Tunisians and Guinea finished above Nigeria with five points each. The Eagles finished with four points while Niger took the rear with a single point.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa has asked Nigerian football fans to forgive the team for the poor outing in Kigali and pray for the team to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I’m really sad that we got booted out in the manner we did and I still can’t believe it,” he told supersport.com

“I want to personally apologise to Nigerians from letting them down. We really wanted to win, we wanted to win it for the fans but it’s a pity it turned out this way.

“Once again I want to apologise to my beloved country for the poor outing.” he added.

Warri Wolves midfielder Ikechukwu ‘Mosquito’ Ibenegbu was also philosophical in defeat and asked Nigerians to forgive the team for the first round ouster.

“This is one of the lowest points of career I must tell you, I can’t seem to get my head round it,” he told supersport.com.

“We started well and I was hoping we would go all the way and make Nigerians proud but it was not meant to be. Everyone in camp is sad as well I must admit.

“We are sorry for the ouster, it was never in our plans to go out of the tournament like that.

“I apologise on behalf of my teammates. We let Nigerians down. We are sorry.” the 28-year-old added.

Nigeria finished third at the last edition of the African Nations Championship which was held in South Africa in 2014.
