Dickson urges Police to tackle cultism, oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson on Tuesday lamented the disturbing crimes of cultism, pipeline vandalism and oil bunkering in the state and tasked the Police to fight them headlong.

Dickson also expressed worries over the security challenges in the maritime sector and urged the Police to flush out the criminals in the state.

The governor equally warned those distracting his government by sponsoring and fermenting crimes to desist as his administration will not condone such acts any longer

Dickson spoke in Yenagoa when the top brass of the Nigeria Police Command in the State, led by the Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi paid him a courtesy visit at Government House,

Hear him: “My government does not play politics with crimes and criminality. The Government will give its support to the Police to fight crimes. Let me warn those who reside outside the state sponsoring and formenting crime to feather their nest, that government will not condone such acts.

“Government takes very seriously the importance of keeping Bayelsa safe from all forms of crime as nobody will be allowed to disturb the peace by carrying arms to terrorize any part of the state.”

Earlier, the Bayelsa state Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi solicited the state government’s support in the provision of a shooting range for the Command and a befitting building for the state Police command headquarters.

Adeyemi also told Gov. Dickson that, the Command has inaugurated an eminent persons forum to boost the relationship between the Police and the members of the public to enhance the fight against crime.

He further said that, the command will create a strike force whose duty will be to nip-in-the-bud, acts of militancy, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

The Police Commissioner pleaded with Dickson to assist in the repairs of two gunboats, that would boost the fight against oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism in the creeks, pointing out that, the vision of the command was to cut short the crime rate in the State.
