The Niger-Delta Youth Movement (NDYM), has warned politicians from the region not to politicize the problems of the zone, by attempting to divert the federal government’s attention from real issues of neglect and contrived under development of the area by past administrations.

The group made this known on Wednesday in Uyo, pledging their sincere commitment to any effort by the federal government towards genuinely alleviating and addressing the numerous plights of the Niger Delta region.

A statement made available to Global Patriot Newspapers, GPN, in Uyo and signed by NDYM President, Comrade Joe Jackson stated, “It is our belief that, this effort should not be politicized by politicians who may attempt to divert the attention of the acting president and his team from the decades of criminal neglect and contrived underdevelopment of the communities by successive administrations in Nigeria.

“In view of the recent visit of the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to some troubled communities in the states of the Niger Delta, NDYM in the first instance commends this effort, since it will afford the presidency a first-hand knowledge of the root cause of intractable tension in the region.”

While describing Prof. Osinbajo’s visit to the region as a welcome development, the body strongly appealed to the federal government to be focused in its effort of finding lasting solutions to the plight of the people of the region, by not allowing politicians to turn the laudable initiative into political jamboree.
