Governors of Kwara, Enugu and Lagos states have sent out their messages of felicitation to Nigerians on the occasion of the Easter celebrations, Sunday.
This is also the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in its message on the occasion called for an end to politics of bitterness.
In his Easter Message signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba , the Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, urged Nigerians, irrespective of religious and ethnic backgrounds to do something different and meaningful to move Nigeria forward.
Governor Ahmed called on Nigerians to use the opportunity of being alive with the freedom to optimise God given potentials to make life more meaningful for the less privileged neighbours.
The Governor also urged Christians and other Nigerians to pray fervently for peace and economic stability of the country in the face of dwindling allocation, called on Christians to imbibe the virtues of forgiveness, selflessness and perseverance learnt during the 40 days of fasting and prayers which marks the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that Easter celebration teaches.
“We must all imbibe the spirit of sacrificing, and giving to our fellow brothers as Christ did for the redemption of mankind”.

On his part, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode called on Nigerians to collectively imbibe the spirit of unity, tolerance and peaceful co-existence as panacea for overcoming the nation’s current challenges.
Governor Ambode in his Easter message to Lagosians, said such fundamental values would go a long way in promoting and strengthening the foundation of love, peace and harmony in the society adding that the season should serve as a reminder to all of the selflessness, love, sacrifice and tolerance of Jesus Christ throughout His earthly sojourn.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, the Governor said, “Remembering that foundation is particularly meaningful this Easter because our nation is facing challenges that we can overcome if we choose to, by exercising collective tolerance and be ready to make sacrifices”.
Noting that this season calls to mind the selflessness, love and tolerance which were the hallmark of Jesus Christ’s life during His sojourn, Governor Ambode said, “It is a season when we should pause and reflect on our individual and collective roles towards promoting and sustaining that foundation of love, peace and harmony in our society”.
“Therefore, we must see this period as a time that affords us to think about how we can each help to steer our nation back on the road to prosperity, by working in the spirit of togetherness.”

The Governor also restated his commitment towards making life more comfortable for the people, assuring that the state government will intensify efforts on road projects, ‘Light Up Lagos’ initiative, youth empowerment, improved and accessible healthcare services and increased public safety and security”.
While wishing Lagosians a happy Easter celebration, Governor Ambode enjoined them to continue to work with his administration “by obeying the law, fulfilling your obligations as citizens and stakeholders, and remaining vigilant, to ensure that our State remains a model of peaceful and harmonious co-existence in our dear country, Nigeria”.
Also, Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, in his own goodwill message to Nigerians, said: “As the Christendom today celebrates Easter to mark the resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ, may I specially greet the good people of our dear state, especially the Christians, on this auspicious occasion when you have successfully come to the end of the forty days of fasting, praying and arms-giving to promote the universal good for humanity.
“During the Lenten season that ushered in today’s celebration, you embarked on spiritual exercises characterised by abstinence and you struggled to imbibe virtues that would promote good human relations among our people.
“I urge you to let these virtues to continue to rule your individual lives so that our dear state would continue to gain from the full import of this period of soul-searching and purification in promoting universal brotherhood among our people. Let the lessons of Easter continue to promote peace and harmony among the good people of our state.
“I would also use this medium to thank our people for their support and outpouring of prayers for our administration and to reassure them of our commitment to good governance in fulfilment of our campaign promises. Happy Easter!

The PDP, in its message of goodwill, through its National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) expressed felicitatations with Nigerians on this year’s Easter, while urging them to use the occasion to renew the bond of love, forgiveness and peaceful co-existence, irrespective of religious, ethnic and political persuasions.
The party said “just as Easter represents the triumph of life over death, Nigerians can draw strength and inspiration to overcome the division, disagreements and bitterness that now threaten the unity and corporate existence of our dear nation”.
The party, in a goodwill message issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh on Saturday said such devotion to national unity and harmony is paramount to overcoming the economic, social and security challenges presently confronting the nation.
“Indeed, the occasion of Easter presents us a great lesson in faith in the Almighty God and the triumph of good over evil, the very reason we must humble ourselves and seek divine intervention for our dear country.
“Our unity is our strongest source of strength as a nation. We must therefore collectively determine to end the bitterness, hostilities and division that keep us apart and seek only the virtues of love, forgiveness, charity and such others that unite us as a people.
“In the same vein, duty beckons on all of us to imbibe a life of constant prayers for our leaders at all levels to be divinely guided against actions and inactions that tend to polarize the people and create tension in the land.
“We must all continue to see ourselves as brothers and sisters and work together towards fulfilling the mind of God who, in His infinite wisdom destined us to live together as a united and prosperous nation, where nobody is molested and where fairness and the wellbeing of all citizens are paramount as guaranteed within the laws.
“On this note the PDP joins in praying for the nation and wishing all citizens happy Easter celebrations.
