The wife of Enugu state governor Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi, has described education as the engine of personal development, urging parents to place the education of their children as a foremost priority of their families.
She stated that without education no country can develop positively and that qualitative teachers are central to the nurture and the development of our educational system.
The first lady in a speech during the 20th national conference/workshop 2015 of women in colleges of education with the theme: “Women and leadership position in Nigeria” at Enugu State
College of Education Technical, lamented the reported falling standard of education in Nigeria, alluding to a recent news report on the May /June 2015 WAEC examination result.
She therefore charged teachers to strive for education excellence in order to reverse the trend. She maintained that women are the major stakeholders in any society, but regretted that over the years; only few women have found their voices in the Nigerian political scene due to discouragement occasioned by political violence and the likes in the political leadership of the country.
Mrs. Ugwuanyi urged women in the country to cultivate the attribute of unity, trust and love among themselves in order to collectively aspire to various leadership positions in Nigeria.
“Without love, it is extremely difficult for us to achieve our desire to getting a good number of leadership positions in this country”, she said
In their separate speeches, provost Enugu State College of education Technical, Sir, Anthony Ani and the National President Women in Colleges of Education, (WICE) affirm that the pivotal rolls women play in the advancement and development of any nation cannot be shoved aside.
They charged the women in the country to brace up to the challenges facing the women in leadership, expressing the hope that the conference would arouse the passion of women towards greater height.
