FA boss happy with football development in Lagos

Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), Seyi Akinwunmi, Monday expressed satisfaction with the way the body had performed creditably to boost football development in the state.

Akinwunmi speaking in Lagos, noted that the football body’s achievement was driven by the quest to revamp the state of football at the grassroots.

“The development that we’ve encountered in the past four years has been tremendously accelerated compared to previous recent past. We think that we may have even being guilty of understating some of our achievements.

“We came in to the FA without any structure, at least, be sure that I am not trying to castigate any previous administration but we have no office, where we are sitting here we did all of these by ourselves without any support from the government.

“And our object was, we must be able to have a place where from which we can administer football; otherwise there can be no development. So, before development, there has to be administration and we did that and brought in staff which we paid, and we continue to pay from our own pocket.

“And got to put in place our focus as youth development and a change in the mindset of people in Lagos what football is about, how it is administered, how it is played, how it’s refereed, how it is coached, everything.

“And we came up with the concept of Eko Football and Eko football encompasses all of these things; and it is a way of life we get in football.’’

He, however, appealed to private bodies and philanthropists in the state to continue to partner with the association to execute its programmes.
