Federal Government has donated relief materials to victims of disasters in Enugu state and expressed concern over alleged high level of negligence, poor and negative attitude of Nigerians towards ecological policies.

The government said these negative tendencies were some of the major causes of fire and flood disasters in the country.

Chairman, Presidential Committee on Flood and Fire Relief Materials and Distribution to victims, Mr. John Owoicho, expressed these concerns in Enugu when he led members of the committee to flag off the 2015 flood and fire disaster relief materials donation to victims in Enugu state.

He explained that despite the numerous challenges associated with flood and fire disasters in the country, the federal government has re-affirmed its readiness to assist and rehabilitate the victims to their former status through the provision and distribution of relief items to them through their state governments.

Mr. Owoicho noted that the committee members were in Enugu to sympathize with the victims and make some items available for distribution to them stressing that, as natural disasters are unavoidable phenomena, the federal government would not relent in its effort to bring succor to the victims, urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items.

He stated that one of the primary assignments of the committee members was to ensure that the contractors handling these relief materials nationwide delivered them on schedule to the various states in line with the terms of reference of the committee and appreciated the cordial relationship existing between NEMA and the state government.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Enugu State Government, the Executive Secretary, Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (ESEMA), Mr. Josephat Offor, commended the federal government for the kind gesture which he noted, would go a long way to put smiles on the faces of the victims, pledging that, the items must be judiciously distributed to the appropriate beneficiaries following the earlier recorded data to that effect.

The materials include bags of rice, bags of beans, garri, zinc, towels, mosquito nets, buckets, blankets, cements, gallons of vegetable oil, red oil, salt, cartons of assorted tomatoes pastes, to mention but a few.
