Nigeria’s former Vice President and founding Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Alex Ekwueme, GCON, has died in London, from complications arising from a chest infection.
His demise was announced in a statement signed by the traditional ruler of his community, who is also his younger brother, Prof. Laz Ekwueme. The statement said that“the sad event occurred at the London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017.”
Dr. Alex Ekwueme, a foremost architect, was reported to have collapsed in his Enugu residence, was rushed to an Enugu private hospital, Memfys Neurosurgery efore President Muhammadu Buhari provided an air ambulance that flew him to Britain for further medcare.
He was Vice President in the the NPN government, headed by Alhaji Shehu Shagari and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP before his demise and was in his 80s.
