The aged mother of an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Bayelsa State, Madam Ebifieghe Bikoroghe Igiri, who was kidnapped 12 days ago, has regained her freedom.
The 105 year-old woman who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Foropa, Southern Ijaw local Government Area, is mother to Elder Wilberforce Igiri, the running mate of the Chief Timipre Sylva, the APC governorship candidate in the Bayelsa state December 5 governorship elections.
Police authorities confirmed, Tuesday morning, that Madam Igiri was freed by her captors on Monday night.
Police in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, ASP Butswat Asinim said the aged mother regained her freedom on Monday night, at the Ayama Waterside Yenagoa, the state capital.
Asinim said the aged mother was hale and hearty and has been reunited with her family.
Butswat disclosed that none of the captors was arrested as the command ‘has intensified its efforts to arrest the abductors while Investigation is ongoing.’
Butswat also said neither the family nor the police authority paid any ransom before securing her release from the kidnappers.’
Following the abduction of the aged mother, her son, Elder Wilberforce Igiri had blamed Governor Serikae Dickson led government on the insensitivity of PDP policies and programmes for youths as reason for kidnapping of the mother by armed youths.
