Ondo State governor and chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has opened up on his love for products of the Nigerian movie industry, also called Nollywood.
At a ceremony to announce the nominees for the 2015 edition of the Best of Nollywood Awards (BON) to be hosted in the state, Mimiko also advised producers to explore new materials for the industry, advocating for the movie industry to provide the fulcrum in the quest for rebranding of the country.
“I am a fan of Nollywood. I wish I had more time to familiarise with the industry. My advice is that we should be creative in terms of storyline and narrative. Let’s use Nollywood to rebrand Nigeria. Let’s create a new narrative for the country. All what I know is that in December, we’ll have the best of BON Awards ever here in Akure,” he said.
The nominees were unveiled at a grand ceremony at The Dome, Akure, Ondo State, Monday, October 26, in ceremony that had in attendance the governor alon with members of his executive cabinet as well as Director Generals of ministries and parastatals.
Other dignitaries at the event include Miss Global, Tessy Ihomaogbonna; Most Beautiful Girl in Lagos, Lynette Ndukwe; Miss Nigeria (International), Victoria Daropale; Miss Bikini, Edith Hunter and Miss Africa, Imoleayo Anjorin.
Speaking further, Governor Mimiko, used the occasion to assure ‘the best outing for Best of Nollywood Awards in Akure this year.’
