Imo varsity lecturer commence indefinite strike over unpaid salaries

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri chapter has commenced an indefinite strike action over failure of the varsity authorities to meet their welfare demands.

Explaining, chairman of the union, Dr. Chidi Nwadiaro, said the action by the lecturers followed inability of the management of the institution under its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, a former ASUU President, to pay their salaries for two months comprising March and April.

Nwadiaro added that the strike, which is “total, comprehensive and indefinite”, would continue until the salaries are paid.

The teachers’ union’s leader assured that his colleagues were not going to enter the classes since they were not paid, urging students to bear with them.
