Former Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa has described current Fulani headsmen/farmers crisis as mere politics just as the Sokoto state chapter of the PDP urged him to join the 2019 presidential race.

He said the Fulani headsmen/farmers killings should have been avoided if it was not politicized, explaining that politicians have infiltrated the camps of Fulani headsmen and that of the farmers resulting to the escalation of the conflict.

According to him, government should differentiate issues of party politics from governance in tackling the crisis.

Bafarawa spoke to journalists after attending Sokoto PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Sokoto.

The state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma informed journalists that the insinuation of impending disintegration of the party in the state was an alleged attempt by the APC-led administration in the state to destroy the party and that such attempt had already failed.

The chairman said there was unity among the Sokoto PDP members under the leadership of former Governor Bafarawa. He challenged the APC in the state to fulfil the numerous pledges it made to the electorates and stop urging PDP supporters to decamp to their party.

The Sokoto PDP expressed its determination to redeem what it called the bad image of the state caused by the poor performance of APC.

Former Governor Bafarawa expressed his appreciation to the PDP members for requesting him to take another shot at the presidential position.

He, however, did not say whether he will accept or reject the call but would trust God to decide for him.

On the call by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek second term in office in 2019, Bafarawa said President Buhari has the right to reject or accept President Obasanjo’s advice.
