Following the incessant kidnappings and hijacking of passenger buses in communities in Rivers State, troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Delta Safe (ODS) have stormed a kidnappers’ den in Rivers State and rescued two abducted soldiers and four civilians.
It was gathered that the JTF troops also discovered human skulls and bones of dead persons when they raided the kidnappers’ camp.
Confirming the development to newsmen, the Operation Delta Safe Spokesman and Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre (JMCC), Major Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the operation followed a report that two soldiers on transit for banking services in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers, were kidnapped by gunmen.
Major Abdullahi said the ODS immediately mobilized troops and stormed the kidnappers’ camp for the rescue operation.
Abdullahi said the criminals, on sighting the soldiers, engaged them in a gun duel, even as he declined saying if there were causalities.
He said the troops overpowered the hoodlums who escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.
Recall that weeks ago, suspected kidnappers hijacked an 18 seater bus loaded with eleven passengers from University of Port Harcourt junction enroute Bayelsa state, killed three of the occupants and raped all the three ladies in the bus for four days.
Also last week, 18 passengers in a bus traveling from Rivers State to Owerri, Imo state were kidnapped along Isiokpo road, while a commercial transport bus was equally hijacked last month with its occupants and the driver macheted along Elele/ Emohua route.
