Kano commences 500km road construction

Gov. Ganduje of Kano State

Kano state government has commenced the construction of 500 kilometers of road network across the state, to enhance mobility, facilitate agricultural and commercial activities.

The state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje announced this during the flag-off of Garun Mallam – Kwiwa – Agalawa rural access road, under the state Integrated Rural Development initiative tagged “Karkara Salamu Alaikum”, at Garun Mallam local government area.
“We have so far identified about 1, 000 kilometers of remote roads but we shall commence with 5oo kilometers to further open up our rural communities for movement of agricultural produce and ease of day-to-day transactions”, the governor stated.
He further mentioned that constructing the rural roads would ease the hardship faced by the people when conveying patients to health centers and make it easier for the government to monitor its commitment in rural schools.
Noting that rural communities in the state have been adequately captured in the administration’s development plans to better the living condition of the community dwellers, the governor stressed the importance of providing infrastructure in rural settlements to fast-track socio-economic development.
Governor Ganduje explained that the state government is constructing the rural roads on direct labour basis, through state-owned companies, as heavy plants and equipment belonging to the companies have been refurbished at the cost of over N50 million, to make the work easier.
In Garun Mallam local government area alone, he announced that about N160 million has been earmarked for the construction of 12 kilometers of roads, appealing to the people to cooperate with the construction companies to ensure speedy completion.
Meanwhile, Governor Ganduje inspected a rural access road being constructed jointly by a World Bank project and the state government, a hand pump borehole sunk by the state government as well as wheat and tomato plantations in some villages in Garun Mallam local government.
