ham2The remains of late Ambassador Hamzat Ahmadu, a veteran Nigerian envoy who died Sunday, has been laid to rest in Gwadabawa LGA of Sokoto state.

The Islamic funeral prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Gwadabawa, Malam Isa Attahiru, and had in attendance sympathisers from within and outside Sokoto.

Among those who graced the prayer were Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, his deputy Ahmed Aliyu, Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon Salihu Maidaji.

Others include former Defence Minister, Gen. Aliyu Gusau, former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Jubril Ayinla, Baba Addini of Lagos, Sheikh Abdul Hafeez and former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji.

Speaking with reporters after the prayers, Tambuwal said the people of Sokoto were proud of the deceased’s contributions to the development of Nigeria.

“He was active during independence struggle as a backroom staff to our founding fathers, and distinguished himself in the Northern Province civil service and later the Federal civil service.

“His most telling contributions however, were in the foreign service. He lived a fulfilled life, and we pray to Allah to grant him eternal rest,” the Governor added.

Late Hamzat Ahmadu was born in 1924. He is survived by two wives and four children.
