A socio-political group, Movement For Abia Reunion Friday staged a Victory Rally for the Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

Held at the Government House, Umuahia, a statement by Godwin Adindu, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor said that the rally attracted a mammoth group who came from the seventeen local councils of the state.

Speaking through their leader, Chief Armstrong Chimezie Okoronkwo, the group pledged to continue to support the Ikpeazu administration.

“We are here to congratulate you on your victory at the Election Petition Tribunal. We know you have no case at the Appeal court. As far as we are concerned, the 2015 Abia Governorship Election has come and gone and we appreciate and celebrate your all-round victory,” Chief Okoronkwo said.

In his speech, the General Secretary of the group, Chief Kingsley Maga explained that the organisation stands for good governance in Abia.

“We are here on what we term Victory Rally. The special rally would have come immediately you won the election as Governor and was sworn-in, but for circumstances outside our control,” he said.

“After a turbulent election process, you were confronted by the aftermath which was translated into series of cases at the Election Petition Tribunal. Cases instituted by people who hide under the camouflage that they are fighting for Abians. However, the masses know they are struggling for their selfish interest. You are indeed God- sent,” Chief Maga said.

The organisation also used the occasion to reveal the plot of some enemies of the state to truncate democracy in God’s Own State, insisting, “some disgruntled elements of ‘Satanism’ want to drag Abia back to Egypt.”

Chief Maga further explained that the rally is phenomenal, timely and joyful.

” Phenomenal because we are celebrating the first Governor of Ukwa- Ngwa extraction; timely because we are rejoicing with our amiable Governor over his victories, especially at the Election Petition Tribunal and joyful because our party is firmly established in Abia state.

While acknowledging the prevailing economic situation in the state and the country at large, the group however called on Governor Ikpeazu to carry them along when he gets the opportunity of empowering Abians.

Movement for Abia Reunion also commended the Governor for his numerous achievements in office in just six months.

They appreciated the work he is doing in Aba and other parts of the state as well as his effort to alleviate the suffering of workers and pensioners in Abia through prompt payment of salaries and pension.

In his response, Dr Ikpeazu who pleaded to speak in Igbo, appreciated the mammoth crowd for waiting patiently for him for hours.

He assured the group that their efforts and support for him and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the elections will not be in vain.

” I thank all Abians and God. We are strong and believe that He will see us through.”

The Governor also expressed confidence that the opposition will be finally defeated, adding that politics is played at the grassroots and not on the social media or in the newspapers.

He pledged to pay Workers’ December salary before Christmas of this year.
