The Governor made this known when he received, at the Banquet Hall, Bauchi State Government House, the new Emir of Katagum Alh. Umar Muhammad Kabir Umar who paid him a courtesy call. The Governor also stated that all necessary support will be given to the Emir and Emirate, stressing that traditional institutions are integral parts of state building.
Governor Mohammed Abubakar further stated that the new Emir of Katagum was Allah Almighty’s choice, explaining that Allah only used him in selecting and appointing the new Emir to succeed his late father.
The Governor, in a statement by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, his SA Communications, recalled that when he kick-started his campaign in Azare town of Katagum Local Government Area, he vowed to follow the footsteps of the former Governor of Bauchi State, Late Alh. Tatari Ali who was known to be a just, fair-minded and impartial individual who was non-discriminatory.
Governor Abubakar expressed his gratitude to the Emir and the good people of Katagum Emirate for their unwavering support and also expressed satisfaction on the kind of people oriented programs the Emir had already embarked upon.
Speaking earlier, His Royal Highness the Emir of Katagum Alh. Umar Muhammad Kabir Umar thanked Allah Almighty for making it possible for him to succeed his father and also thanked Governor Mohammed A. Abubakar for installing him as the 12th Emir of Katagum.
The royal father, who went down memory lane, recalled the good relationship between him and Governor Mohammed Abubakar, pointing out that they have known each other for more than 40 years. The Emir described Governor Abubakar as just and fair since their childhood days revealing that the only time you will ever witness the anger of the Governor is whenever someone is being oppressed. He was fair to all and right now he is fair to all the zones.
The Emir also recalled how Gov. Abubakar took care of the late Emir more than any Governor in the past and how he surpassed his predecessors in frequently visiting the late Emir.
The Emir expressed gratitude to His Excellency Governor Mohammed A. Abubakar, that of his family, the wives of the late Emir and the entire people of Katagum Emirate.
The Emir also categorically pledged his allegiance to Governor Mohammed Abubakar and his administration. He recalled how Gov. Mohammed Abubakar was pitied by some and laughed at by some when he took over the mantle of leadership as the Governor of Bauchi State in 2015 because of the serious financial difficulties the entire nation was facing at that time. But Allah in His Infinite Mercy helped the Governor find his way out of the gutter, owing to his prudence in managing resources and sterling leadership qualities he was able to offset 4 months’ backlog of salaries, managed to continue paying workers salaries on time (one of the few Governors that no longer have problems with payment of salaries and pension in the country). Despite paucity of funds, the Governor managed to also start numerous capital projects across the state especially in Katagum Emirate.
The Emir thanked the Governor for the projects taking place in Katagum, recalling that one of the first contracts awarded by the Governor was that of the now famous Misau – Udubo – Gamawa road. Other projects include Jama’are – Atafowa road, Giade – Basirka, other numerous road projects and improvement of health facilities across the zone and also the construction of 100s of boreholes.
Finally, the Emir assured His Excellency Governor M.A Abubakar of his full support and that of the good people of Katagum Emirate.
