The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has disclosed plans to establish a force operational base in Bauchi State.

Making the disclosure to Governor Muhammad Abubakar at the Government House, Bauchi during a courtesy call, the Chief of Training of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Iya, said that his team was in Bauchi to inspect the land alloted to the NAF, to be used for the force operating base proposed for Bauchi, the state capital

Air Vice Marshal Iya stated that as soon as the inspection is completed, the force ‘will immediately commence processes towards the operations base realization in Bauchi.’

According to him, establishment of military formations are purely based on threat analysis following insurgency in the North East Geo-political Zone of the country.

Air Vice Marshal Iya said: “We are all aware of what is happening in the Northeast, and since the insurgency started both the army and the air force have expanded their deployments in order to effectively take care of the threats”.

He revealed that the Air force has within the last two years established four operating bases that include Mubi, Monguno, Bama, as Bauchi was also in the force projection.

The Chief of Training of the Nigerian Air Force said these establishments are for the force to effectively carry out its mandate of providing air support to ground forces and ensuring that it maintains peace and security.

“You can see that from Kano which is the nearest base from here, and then from here to Maiduguri and Yola, we need to close these gaps by establishing another AOB so that we can effectively cover the entire Northeast”.

He then thanked the Bauchi state government for the land allocation and its pledge to assist NAF in establishing the base by providing logistic support, just as he assured that the Military will do everything possible to return peace and security in the Northeast.

In his address, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar noted with delight the new vigour with which the Nigerian Air Force is being led by example under the leadership of Air Marshal Sadeeq Abubakar.

“For the first time you have the Chief of Air Staff going to the peak of the battle and participating in the battle, I think it is very rare which needs to be commended,” he said .

The Governor also commended the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force for considering Bauchi state for the establishment of the base.

“ It is not a surprise to me, I have been working quietly with some of us in the Nigerian Air Force who are good sons of Bauchi state, who have been working quietly and assiduously towards seeing to the establishment of force operation base in Bauchi state,” said the governor.

Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar assured the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force that the Government and people of Bauchi state are ready to welcome the NAF for the establishment of the force operation base.

‘I have pledged on behalf of the Government and good people to render all assistance that is possible within the meagre resources of the state to quickly set the machinery in motion in determining and providing for adequate land to NAF for the establishment of the base”.
