Nollywood tops 2015 AMAA nominations in South Africa

Nominees from over 35 countries have been selected for this year’s African Movies Academy Awards (AMAA) slated to take place in South Africa on September 26, 2015. Nigerian Nollywood movies are dominating other countries, this year Nollywood has about 10 movies among the over 50 major African movies nominated for the AMAA Awards.

Chigozie Atuanya’s Chetanna (Igbo language film), and Kunle Afolayan’s October 1 are among the nominees for the 2015 AMAA Awards. The Darling of the Nollywood films, Queen Nwokoye was nominated as the ‘best actress in a leading role’ in Chetanna.

Others nominee who are also in contention include Ini Edo (While You Slept), Jocelyn Dumas (Silver Rain), Lesliana Pereira (NJINGA: Queen of Angola) and Aida Wang (Juliet and Romeo).

Kunle Afolayan’s October 1 movie was nominated in several categories including ‘The Bayelsa State Government Endowment Award for Best Nigeria Film’ and Achievement in production Design and Costume Design category.
