The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie Oyegun at the weekend decried what he called sectional governance in Enugu state and urged the people of the state to vote APC in order to bring even development and also integrate the people
to national politics.
Oyegun, who gave the advice during the flag off of the APC local government election campaign in Enugu state at Agbani, the headquarters of Enugu East senatorial zone, expressed dismay over what he called the poor state of roads and other infrastructure in Enugu, the capital city, alleging that the PDP led administration was developing only Enugu North senatorial zone, the governor’s zone.
Oyegun was represented by the APC chairman in Rivers State, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, in an event attended by dignitaries including former Governor of Enugu state, Sullivan Chime; Enugu APC chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye; former Speaker of Enugu state, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh,
the governorship candidate of APC in the 2015 general elctions, Barr. Okey Ezea, and the chairmanship candidate of the party in Nkanu West LGA, Chief Mrs. Uchenna Ugwu.
He urged the people of the South East geopolitical zone of the country to vote APC in 2019 general elections as a way of effectively integrating the zone into the mainstream national politics and ending marginalization.
The national chairman of APC said the people of Enugu and Anambra states should begin to demonstrate their fate in the party by voting APC in the November 4 council poll and November 18 governorship poll in Enugu and Anambra states respectively.
Oyegun said, “The people of Enugu state should reject APC in Enugu. Apart from that we are complaining, we in the South, I’m from South South, we are complaining that oh we are not properly represented at the centre; we cannot continue to refuse to take the opportunity
offered us by nature. If we continue to vote PDP we will continue to be minority at the national level. And even the PDP themselves, they are even helping matters; they have decided to hijack the government and make the government a personal affair, which ought not to be.
“So the message I’m preaching to my people in the South South; I’m also preaching in the South East that it is time for us to get involved at the centre. Therefore the example to show is this one we are talking about, the grassroots, the local government election. So let every person in Enugu vote for APC as an example of embracing the change that the centre is preaching, that will be rewarded by our belonging to the centre so that next time by 2019 we will not complain again” he said.
The chairman of APC in Enugu state, Dr. Nwoye boasted that the party would win the local government election in Nkanu West and other local government areas of the state, noting specifically that Nkanu West has had successive failed administration for 16 years under PDP
“You saw the slogan of PDP candidate, he said ‘Liberation 2017’; he is attempting to liberate PDP from PDP. It tells you that he is at least truthful. He is truthful to the extent that he is aware that the right thing has not been done. The last local government chairman was a non
performing local government chairman. He was interested in primitive acquisition of wealth; he didn’t build any road, he didn’t construct any bridge, he owes salary, he spent more time overseas that he spent in his office.
“He was busy buying things he couldn’t buy as an actor; he was just an actor, and who has now acquired wealth. So you see the PDP candidate telling the world that he is liberating Ndi Nkanu from the stranglehold of a terrible leader under the platform of PDP. So we are cashing in on it,” he said.
APC chairmanship candidate for Nkanu West LGA, Mrs. Ugwu promised to bring change to the local government and to run a participatory government through regular town hall meetings.
The former Speaker, Odoh, and the guber candidate of the party in 2015 elections, Barr. Ezea urged the people to come out enmass and vote APC, assuring that nobody will rig or intimidate them as APC is in power at the centre. Ends
