Chairmen of state chapters of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have warned the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government of All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop the unnecessary intimidation and harassment of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
The warning was contained in a statement issued in Abuja, Tuesday by the chairman of Conference of PDP States Chairmen, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo who is also the chairman of Benue State PDP.
The PDP chieftains declared that they would mobilize members of the party across the country to resist any further attempt to harass and intimidate Ekweremadu, whose election by his colleagues as Deputy Senate President to Senator Bukola Saraki of APC was, according to them, as a result of his outstanding performance in the previous sessions of the Senate.
They therefore, called on the APC to accept the outcome of the election of the Principal Officers of both chambers of the National Assembly which took place on June 9, 2015 in good faith and concentrate on giving Nigerians the change they promised them devoid of complaint.
“We, the States Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) want to express unequivocally that any attempt to further harass and intimidate the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, a highly respect member of our great party will be met with nationwide resistance by our membership across the entire country.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) government and Party better start paying due attention to the renewed spate of unprecedented violence and mass killings by the insurgent Boko Haram sect.
“The Government having ingloriously failed to show any understanding of the problems facing Nigerians and lacking completely in any solution are advised to own up to their ineptitude than harass statesmen and play politics with sensitive issues of National interest.
“The APC government better be reminded that Nigerians are fed up with their national anthem of ‘meeting empty treasury’. They should wake up from their slumber and address the irretrievably collapsing Naira under their watch,” the statement read.
