The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed ‘shock’ over Monday’s abduction of Mrs Oluwatoyin Nwosu, wife of the Deputy Managing Director of the Sun Newspapers, Mr. Steve Nwosu.

Toyin was reportedly abducted from the family residence in the Okota area of Amuwo Odofin in Lagos, at about 2:30am, Monday, by unknown gunmen.

According to Mr Nwosu, as at 9am, his wife’s abductors had not communicated with the family.

Reacting, in a statement, Monday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP said it ‘was deeply saddened by the news of the abduction of Mrs. Toyin Nwosu,’ just as it described the incident as ‘a devilish and barbaric act.’

The PDP said ‘it is deeply worried by the recent spate of abductions in the country, adding that the perpetrators cannot justify their actions under any guise whatsoever.’

“Our thoughts and prayers go for the safe return of Mrs. Nwosu and for other victims of this social vice. We are also confident that the security forces would track down the abductors and expose those behind the crime.

“Finally, the PDP declares its support for each and every policy undertaken by the present Federal Government to limit to scourge kidnapping and other criminal activities. We stand together with the government against all enemies perpetrating criminal acts against lives and property in dear nation”, the party said.

Toyin was abducted in their home at about 2:30am on Monday.

The family lives in the Okota area of Amuwo Odofin in Lagos State.

According to Steve, as at 9am, his wife’s abductors had not gotten in touch with the family.

Steve, a columnist of repute, was an Executive Director and the Daily Editor of the Sun before being appointed DMD.

Narrating his ordeal, Monday, Mr. Nwosu, said that the armed robbers gained entry into their home through a nearby transformer, after robbing a house on the same street earlier.

“They came to our house in the early hours of today, Monday, September 14, after robbing another house on our street. They entered through a nearby transformer and started harassing, beating us and shouting that we should bring out the money. I politely told them we don’t have money in the house. They later left with my wife. We have reported the robbery and abduction of my wife to the police,’’ he said.

On whether the abductors had made contacts with the family on phone, the top journalist and respected columnist said no.

”We are still waiting for their call.”
