The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its condolences to the family of its flagbearer in the April 11 Governorship elections in Plateau State, Senator Gyang Nyam Pwajok, who died, Wednesday.
A statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the ‘Acting National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the PDP family nationwide, mourns the sudden death of the party’s flag bearer in the 2015 governorship election in Plateau state, Senator Gyang Nyam Pwajok.’
“We are indeed shocked by the news of the loss of this strong, committed and outstanding party man, especially coming at the time when he was still pursuing justice on his deprived victory at the April 11 governorship election.
“Senator Pwajok lived a patriotic citizen and a brilliant lawmaker who gave his all and discharged his responsibilities with unequalled forthrightness, loyalty and commitment to the development of his state and our dear fatherland in general.
“The PDP family nationwide joins the immediate family of Senator Pwajok and our fold in Plateau state in mourning and praying God to grant us all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the party said.
Senator Pwajok recently lost his appeal against Governor Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Election Petitions Tribunal.
A family source said Senator Pwajok may have died of a kidney disease in India.
Earlier this year Senator Pwajok dismissed rumours about his death.
Born on March 15, 1966, in Jos, Plateau state, Gyang Nyam Shom, Pwajok, popularly referred to as “G.N.S” based on his initials, lived a greater part of his childhood in the city.
He attended the Jos township primary school, (1972 – 1977), Saint Murumba College, Jos (1977 – 1982), the School of Preliminary Studies, Keffi; (1982 – 1984), the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1984 – 1987) and the post graduate school of the University of Jos, where he earned a master of science degree in political economy and development studies in 1991 at the age of 24.
It would be recalled that the governorship election petitions tribunal in Plateau State, Monday, upheld the election of Governor Simon Lalong of the All Progressive Congress (APC), as it dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, GNS Pwajok, on the grounds that it lacked merit.
The APC candidate won the 2015 gubernatorial election in Plateau State with 564, 913 votes as against the PDP’s candidate who scored 520, 627 votes.
Senator Pwajok had challenged the victory of Governor Lalong at the polls, alleging foul play.
