Unconfirmed police sources claim that five of the suspected 12 abductors of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, have been arrested, Sunday.
It would be recalled that Falae, who is also a former Minister of Finance, was abducted on September 21 on his farm at Ilado village in Akure North Local Government Area but was released 72 hours later.
Also, last week Yoruba elders had met last week and issued a communiqué which urged the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to fish out the culprits involved in the kidnapping while also warning Fulani herdsmen to steer clear of the Yorubaland.
The source who revealed that two of the five were arrested in Niger, said others two were arrested elsewhere in the country last week, even as he hinted that the police were still on the hunt for the remaining members of the gang.
He said the arrested suspects were being kept at the custody of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Akure, Ondo State capital.
Commenting, state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph, who neither denied nor confirmed the arrest, said it was the Inspector General of Police that can talk on the matter.
“The IG had taken over all issues relating to Falae. The issue of Falae is a national issue that IG will speak on. The commissioner said it is a matter that only IG can speak on. The IG is likely to brief journalists on the matter, Monday,” Joseph said in a telephone interview.
