President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday commended the efforts of the Ministries of Transport, Power, Works and Housing, the security agencies, Kaduna State Government, the contractor, Julius Berger, and others, on the successful completion of work on the runway and re-opening of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, 24 hours ahead of the time limit.
The President, according to Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser, (Media & Publicity), said that he looked forward to such display of inter-agency cooperation and efficiency in the operation of the entire Federal Government machinery.
President Buhari also thanked Ethiopian Airlines for cooperating with the Nigerian Government during the period of the closure of Abuja airport, describing it as a good example of intra-African cooperation.
In another statement by Adesina, President Buhari commiserated with the family and friends of former Nigerian Ambassador to Turkey, Sen. Ajuji Waziri, who passed away on Monday.
President Buhari joined the diplomatic corps and the National Assembly in mourning the demise of the former diplomat and lawmaker, who worked assiduously to improve the conditions of his community and the country.
“As a public servant, who served in many capacities, the President extols the humanity, integrity and purposefulness that Waziri brought into all his responsibilities, particularly in improving relations with Turkey, which has over the years become one of Nigeria’s strong allies in the international community.
“President Buhari believes that Waziri’s wise counsels, insight and forthrightness would be sorely missed by his community and the entire country. He sympathizes with his wife, former EFCC boss, Farida Waziri, the children, and the government and people of Gombe State” and
“ prays that the almighty God will receive the soul of the departed and grant his loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.”
The President also felicitated with the people and government of Turkey on the successful conclusion of the country’s referendum on Monday.
According to another statement by Adesina, President Buhari congratulated “Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for the foresight and maturity of leading his people to the polls to decide on the future of leadership for the country that will further deepen peace and stability.
“The President believes the referendum showcases the democratic credentials of the country and reflects a willingness of the Turkish people to live together and jointly pursue a better future.”
