Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi’s lawyer, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has written to former Aviation Minister, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode and media aide to Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, Mr. Lere Olayinka, threatening “stiff legal actions” if they fail, within seven days, to apologise and pay N500million and N750million respectively as compensation for defaming the former governor of Rivers State.

Prince Fagbemi, in separate letters, dated April 14, 2017, stated that the two men in tweets posted on their twitter timelines alleged that Chief Amaechi is the owner of the flat and the $43,449,947, 27, 800 pounds sterling and N23, 218,000 discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Lagos.

The letter to Fani Kayode stressed that the “story as uploaded by you is to your knowledge, blatantly false, malicious and is aimed at impeaching the credit of our client,” stressing that Chief Amaechi “neither owns the cash nor the house where the cash was found.”

The ultimatum to Olayinka, on the other hand, not only insisted that Chief Amaechi is not the owner of the house or the cash found in the house but that Mo Abudu, the TV presenter is not his girlfriend as Olayinka alleged in his tweet, which said that the former Rivers State governor bought two of the luxury flats and gave one to Abudu, who he said, “is suspected to be his girlfriend.”

The apologies from Fani Kayode and Olayinka, which are to be published in five national dailies and on the twitter handles of the two personalities, Fagbemi ‘s ultimatum said, should be heartfelt, should be a total withdrawal of their claims and their imputations, and should contain expressions of deep regret for the “unwarranted attacks .” They are also to pay the N500million and N750 million respectively as compensation for defamation.
