Governor Samuel Ortom has charged the new Council of the Benue State University to reposition the institution so that it could discharge its mandate better.
He gave the charge at the old Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House.
The Benue State Governor stressed that the repositioning included the revision of the university law in line with the guidelines of the National Universities Commission, ensuring transparency and accountability, tackling challenges of over bloated wage bills and departments as well as conflicts and complaints by members of the public.
“I charge you to be fair, firm and progressive in your leadership,” he stated.
“Be above board in your operations and work strictly in accordance width the university law and NUC guidelines”.
He urged them to ensure that the security and welfare of the students remained their priority at all times because the university existed because of students.
The Pro-Chancellor and chairman is Professor Zachary Gundu while members are Professor Johnson Onah, Mrs Sarah Mkeryi Amahson, Dr Mathias Oyigeya, Barristers Sebastine Hon and William Ortyom and Mr Ionguga Atagher.
Responding on behalf of the council Professor Gundu pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them and appealed for cooperation from the university community and its management.
