The Late Sir Ahmadu .Bello Foundation (ABF), popularly known as the Sarduana Foundation has. donated the sum of N20 million to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Borno.

Presenting the donation to the Borno state Government at the Government House at the weekend, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees BOT of the Foundation who is also the former Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu said the foundation found it very imperative and indeed vital to make its contribution in the form of financial support to IDPs.

He said considering the level of destruction caused by the Boko Haram insurgency, government alone cannot handle the post insurgency reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement of the IDPs alone, hence the need for individuals, corporate organizations and international donors to assist the government.

While commending Aliko Dangote Foundation and Bill Gates and Melinda Foundations for their support to the IDPs, he also called on individuals and corporate organizations to emulate them.

Responding, Governor Kashim Shettima thanked the Sardauna Foundation for the donation and their visit to condole the people of the state.

He assured them that the donation will be judiciously used for the purpose intended, while extolling the virtues of late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna. He said the late Sardauna has indeed left a legacy worthy of emulation by northern leaders.

The governor also urged the BOT members to ensure that the legacy the late Sardauna of Sokoto left behind should be upheld, especially his efforts in uniting the northern region irrespective of tribe, religion and political background.

He also assured them that with the efforts of the federal government and Nigerian military, peace will soon return to the state and region and that Borno will return to its rightful position as “home of peace”.
