The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has concluded its four day workshop on “capacity development of commanding officers in the face of contemporary security challenges” in Maiduguri with a strong call on participants to make good use of the knowledge acquired while on the front line of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-east.

Declaring the workshop closed, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru expressed satisfaction, as the event recorded quite a large and impressive turnout of military officers.

While congratulating all participants, particularly commanding officers and other security agencies who have availed themselves of the golden opportunity, the GOC said that they are now better informed than their contemporaries.

General Attahiru charged them to adopt a careful and systematic implementation of the knowledge acquired during the workshop in absolute support of the actualization of the Chief of Army staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai`s vision which seeks “to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles.

“This workshop will further engender the required synergy and success. Workshop of this nature is obviously a priceless opportunity for commanding officers in all spheres of security settings”, the GOC added.

He reiterated that the second Commanding Officers Workshop 2016 should identify its shortcomings and proffer solutions towards achieving success, adding that this hydra-headed monster of our time called terrorism and insecurity, actually informed the theme of the workshop.

He said “this workshop brings together Commanding Officers from the Nigerian Army units and other security stakeholders in order to enable them rub minds and compare notes on the issue of security confronting the nation.”

“The menace posed by terrorism, armed robbery, communal clashes, kidnapping and militancy among others, require close synergy among security experts. The negative impact of insecurity on the Nigerian economy poses serious challenge to the Nigerian Army. It is therefore a call to duty for security agencies to confront these security challenges by employing the most appropriate modern techniques at our collective disposal”, the GOC said.

The five day workshop also witnessed an on-the-spot visitation of participants to various army formations within the theater of Operation Lafiya Dole.
