Sokoto APC: Local government congress peaceful;Tambuwal, Wamakko still in control
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Congress was on Saturday conducted peacefully in the 23 Local Government Areas of Sokoto State with Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Senator Aliyu Wamakko still in firm grip of the party in the state.
Our correspondent who monitored the exercise in Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Wamakko, Kware and Dange Shuni local government areas report that the congress was conducted by APC officials by consensus arrangement as no ballot was cast in most local government Areas.
In Tambuwal local government, the home Town of the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, the exercise was peacefully conducted. The governor arrived the venue and was received by party officials who supervised the exercise.
In Wamako local government, the exercise commenced when the Senator representing the Zone, Senator Aliyu Magatarda Wamakko arrived the venue where a 27-man party executive Committee was elected.
The Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Bello Buba Kimba described APC as formidable and united in the area.
The Secretary of the Electoral Committee dispatched to monitor the exercise in Sokoto State from the National Headquarters of the party, Alhaji Kabiru Zarewa, said the exercise was free and fair.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission SIEC also monitored the APC local government congress in Sokoto state.
