Confusion and anxiety have gripped people of Ekiti state, especially public servants over the continued delay by the state government to disburse the Paris Club refund  recently released by the Federal government.
The governor of the state, Mr. Ayo Fayose had told the people in a radio and television broadcast last week that the state got N4.7 billion from the fund.
According to him, major stakeholders would be invited to deliberate on and advise government on how to spend the money which falls under the required amount required to pay salaries of public servants in the state.
Already, the state government is owing up to seven months’ salaries of public servants while pensioners are yet to be paid over nine months.
Investigations revealed that a cross section of people are canvassing that local governments should be excluded from benefitting from the fund, while another group is saying the fund should be used solely to pay pensioners.
Another report indicates that Governor Fayose is insisting that however small the amount may be, certain percentage should be set aside to fund some ongoing capital projects, especially the flyover bridge and the new ultra modern market both in Ado Ekiti.
Already, work is at a low speed at the site of the flyover bridge while the contractor handling the market has abandoned the site due to non payment.
Both projects are expected to be commissioned later in the year.
To douse the tension, Governor Fayose has invited a cross section of the state’s public sector workers for a meeting Thursday.
A statement by the state Head of Service, Dr Gbenga Faseluka, explained that the meeting is aimed at discussing modalities for sharing the N4.7 billion Paris Club refund received by the state.
