The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris has said that the police is to establish Terrorism Investigation unit in Maiduguri to trace the source of improvised explosives Devices IEDs to curtail insurgency in the Northeast.
The IGP who disclosed this in Maiduguri on Thursday when he paid a courtesy call on the Borno state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa at the Government House Maiduguri said he was on an assessment tour of the North East with a view to ensure effective deployment of his men to schools across the region.
He also solicited the support of the Borno state government, so as to end insurgency and restore civil authority in the North East.
Responding, Alhaji Durkwa congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari and the service chiefs for facilitating the release of the the Dapchi school girls and called on them to work hard to see to the rescue of the remaining Chibok girls.
While also commending the Police, he assured the IGP of the continued support of the Borno state government.
While at the Shehu of Borno’s palace, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi called on the IGP to consider absorbing the members of civilian JTF into the Police Force.
The IGP while in Maiduguri also visited the proposed Explosives Ordinance Department, EOD, training school.
