UNWTO Regional Commissions elect new chairs; Zimbabwe heads Africa

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)’s six Regional Commissions have elected new chairs and vice-chairs, as well as the host countries of their forthcoming meetings in 2016.  This is as Zimbabwe will head the African Commission.

The decisions were made on the occasion of the just-concluded 1st UNWTO General Assembly in Medellin, Colombia.

The UNWTO General Assembly held from September 12-13.

Regional Commission for Africa (CAF)

Chair: Zimbabwe

Vice chairs: Cameroon, C0te d’Ivoire

Host of the next CAF: C0te d’Ivoire

Regional Commission for the Americas (CAM)

Chair: Haiti

Vice chairs: Paraguay, Chile

Host of the next CAM: Cuba

Regional Commission for East Asia and the Pacific (CAP)

Chair: Philippines

Vice chairs: Cambodia, Japan

Regional Commission for Europe (CEU)

Chair: Switzerland

Vice chairs: Montenegro, Lithuania

Host of the next CEU: Lithuania

Regional Commission for the Middle East (CME)

Chair: Lebanon

Vice chairs: Egypt, Jemen

Host of the next CME: Lebanon

Regional Commission for South Asia (CSA)

Chair: India

Vice chairs: Bangladesh, Afghanistan

In another development Japan has been named host of the next CAP meeting which will be joint session of the CAP/CSA.
