Football fans in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom, are excited over the upcoming visit of LaLiga giants Atletico Madrid for the inaugural GOtv MAX Cup.

The GOtv MAX Cup will see Atletico Madrid, popularly known as the “Los Rojiblancos’’ play against the Super Eagles on May 22 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

A survey by GOtv shows that football fans in Uyo are delighted that the match was taking place in their capital city.

They said that they were thrilled that Uyo is the first Nigerian city to host the newly crowned Europa League winners and looking forward to seeing the players they watched on television.

“I am happy that Atletico Madrid is coming to Uyo.

“I will definitely be at the stadium to watch the team. I pray and hope that the Super Eagles give a good account of themselves,’’ a survey by Bamidele Johnson, the Media Officer for the GOtv MAX Cup quoted Inya Bassey as saying.

Another, Sunday Ndifreke, thanked MultiChoice for facilitating the visit of Atletico Madrid, adding that he was an admirer of their manager, Diego Simeone.

“I want to sincerely thank MultiChoice for putting together the GOtv MAX Cup and having it hosted in Uyo.

“ I am a fan of Simeone because his team always gives everything. I definitely will be at the stadium,’’ he said.

Samuel Okon, a self-confessed Atletico Madrid fan, said the GOtv MAX Cup represents a dream fulfilled.

According to him, he will be going to watch the match with his brother, who is also a supporter of the Spanish team when they play in Uyo.

Atletico Madrid have had an impressive season and are currently placed second on the LaLiga standings.

They also won the UEFA Europa League Cup following their 3-0 win over Olympique Marseille of France on May 16.
