Youth leader calls for counter force to end cultism

AKHERE Godwin, Benin

FOLLOWING the recurring cult violence that has claimed no fewer than 25 lives in Edo state, concerned Edo citizens including an All Progressives Congress (APC), chieftain and youth leader, Comrade Tony Adun, have appealed to warring cult groups to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign in the quest for sustainable economic growth and peaceful co-existence in the state.

Comrade Adun, fondly referred to as Kabaka, who decried the spate of killings in the state called on the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole and President Goodluck Jonathan to wade into the senseless killings and wanton destruction of property in the ongoing cult violence.

He said it is unimaginable the loss of lives particularly that of the youths who he said are the future leaders of the country.

Kabaka added that the senseless killings have only done the youths no good but brought untold hardship on the people of the state as mothers and their children are not spared in killings which has drastically affected the social economic activities of the state.

The APC chieftain and youth leader while calling on security agencies to brace up to the challenges of stemming the numerous death of youths in the state said it has become imperative to resort to self help by encouraging the state government to inaugurate an anti-cult counter force group to help address and put an end to the fracas in the state adding that until efforts by concerned citizens move in to check the menace,” the killings will continue to be in the increase as residents now live in fear and cannot go about their lawful business.

“In Edo state, commercial bus drivers cannot go about their driving business again for fear of being killed. Drinking spots in the city centre are usually deserted for fear of any attack by rival cult groups. Vulcanizers now stay away from work because they feel unsafe and all these have negative economic effects on our lives as serious and hard working Edo indigenes.”

“Future doctors and governors are dying on a daily basis because of these battles. Even innocent mothers who know nothing about what is going on are also been killed over the cult crisis. We must say no to these killings by putting an end to the useless and sense war by cult groups. How long shall we fold our arms and watch the senseless killing of our young men? I am pleading with the entire youths in the state and particularly the security agencies to do the needful to save the daily wastage of lives of our future leaders,” he stated.
