Rescue of Chief Olu Falae: How we did it – Police; I believe my kidnappers’re linked to Boko Haram – Falae

A special squad led by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Solomon Arase has rescued the kidnapped chairman of Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae.
Falae, a former Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, was kidnapped last Monday by people suspected to be fulani herdsmen at his Ilado farm in Akure north local govt of Ondo state.
In a statement by Police Spokesperson, Ag. ACP Olabisi Kolawole, said the IGP coordinated both aerial and land operations to ensure the freedom of the former presidential candidate of the SDP.
Some of his workers were beaten, wounded and chased into the forest before Falae was whisked away.
The kidnappers later demanded a N100 million ransom which they later reduced to N90 million out of which the family said it could only raise N2 million.
President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the IGP to ensure that the elder statesman was rescued, which prompted Arase to fly to the Ondo state capital early Thursday.
He led top brass of the force mobilized from other formations into the Ilado forest which had been cordoned off since Monday by a team from the Ondo state Police command.
According to Kolawole, the IGP moved in some Technical teams to reinforce the efforts of Ondo State Police Command. The team started the operation in the early hours of Thursday, combed every nook and cranny of Ondo state till success was achieved in Owo.
While re-uniting Chief Falae with his family, the Inspector-General of Police said that those who think Nigeria is lawless should have a rethink as the Nigeria Police Force and other sister agencies are everywhere to deal decisively with those miscreants who intend to test the capabilities of the Force. He further said that the former Secretary to the Federal Government is hale and hearty. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police has promised to leave no stone unturned till the perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to book.
Reliving his ordeal, Chief Falae said “I slept on the bare floor for four days. I did not sleep in one location during the four days. I was being moved from one location to another to avoid being caught by law enforcement agents.
“The kidnappers were always abreast of media reports and were moving me from one location to another within hours. “All the rains that fell during the four days caught me in the deep bush.
“I have a feeling that the kidnappers are using the money realised from the various heinous crimes to fund the activities of Boko Haram because they told me that the N2 million being offered by my family was not enough to do anything.”
