Heavy rains disrupt DSP Alamieyeseigha’s burial program as Jonathan, Sheriff, Dickson, others mourn ‘Governor General of Ijaw nation’

Heavy down pour in Amassoma community, Bayelsa state on Saturday afternoon disrupted the burial program of late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha as the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, his wife Patience, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, Governor Seriake Dickson and other political leaders gathered to bid the former Governor of the state a final farewell. .

The heavy rainfall which lasted for over two hours starting from 12.30 pm to 2 .58 pm forced all the dignitaries including serving governors and senators to shelter under the canopies .

Late Chief Alamieyeseigha’s state burial program was held at the Amassoma Comprehensive Secondary school play ground.

The rain which interrupted the burial program including the open air church service and traditional dances by his kinsmen stopped at about 2.43 pm before his remains were interred in his compound.

Speaking shortly before the burial, Senator Sheriff described late Alamieyesigha as a detribalized Nigerian who stood strongly for true federalism and resource control.

Describing death as a compulsory calling, Senator Sheriff said Alamieyesigha believed strongly in the emancipation of the Ijaw people.

According to him, “DSP Alamieyesigha was persecuted because he believed in his people”

Earlier in his speech, Dr Jonathan said the late Alamieyesigha brought visionary leadership, peace, social integration, unity and infrastructural development to Bayelsa state.

Accompanied by his wife, Dr. Jonathan said Alamieyesigha encouraged education among youths of Ijaw extraction .

He also described him as a bridge builder that has departed from his people.

Late Alamieyesigha was buried shortly after the down pour ceased in his residence in Amassoma, at about 3.30pm

Other dignitaries that graced the burial ceremony at Amassoma include Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Minority leader of the Senate, Chief Godswill Akpabio,.Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, former governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, Deputy Governor of Delta state Amos Otuaro and other government functionaries.
