Gov. Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forth coming Edo governorship election, has pledged to construct a marine post for Illushi community to tackle insecurity.
Obaseki made the pledge on Monday when he paid a courtesy visit on the Igwe of Illushi community, Sunday Enye, as part of his campaign tour to the community in Esan South East Local Government Area of the state.
Gov. Obaseki, has also given assurance of speedy completion of the Ubiaja-Ewohomi by-pass if elected into office for a second term.
He gave this assurance during his campaign tour to the area on Monday when he visited the Palace of the traditional ruler of Ubiaja, His Royal Highness, Curtis Iredia, the Eidenegie I of Ubiaja.
At the Palace of the Igwe of Illushi community, Sunday Enye, Obaseki said: “We are concerned about the security in this community, so we have concluded arrangement to build a marine post here.
“Infact, we have even gone ahead to purchase some gun boats for the police already. We have lots of plans but we need peace and security to effect our plans.”
The candidate, who is the incumbent governor of the state, also said that his administration would address the problem of coastal erosion disturbing the community.
He said, “We know what is going on, but we are prioritising”.
He also noted that his government’s focus was on the young people in the society, while giving assurance that the future was bright.
He urged the monarch to continue to promote peace and security.
He further sought the blessings of the monarch for his second term, promising a 30 years development plan for the area to guide successive governments on the needs of the community and what to do for them.
In his response, Enye appreciated the governor for the courtesy visit and appealed to him to make tackling the coastal erosion in the community a priority.
The monarch also appealed for electricity from the National grid to be restored to the community, noting that the community had been without light for more than five years.
He urged the government to upgrade the market in the community, while also lamenting the dearth of teachers in the community’s schools.
Similarly, Mr Peter Anuka, head of Ifueku Island, appreciated the governor for rehabilitating schools in the area, and the ongoing construction of a health center at the Island.
He however appealed to the governor to provide staff for the schools and the health center after completion.
At the Palace of the traditional ruler of Ubiaja, His Royal Highness, Curtis Iredia, Obaseki promised to complete construction of the Ubiaja-Ewohomi by-pass that had remained abandoned by previous administrations, adding that he would also rehabilitate failed portions of the roads in the locality.
The candidate, who acknowledged there were lots of challenges in the state, noted that his first term which would end on November 12, had focused on prioritised areas, which included the people, quality education, human capital development as well as infrastructure development.
He also disclosed that his administration had taken agriculture as a priority and was presently supporting lots of out growers in cassava cultivation.
The candidate added that poultry farming was an area of interest to him, saying his administration would commit to encouraging and enlarging poultry farming in the state.
Obaseki further promised to ensure that in a few weeks the state would be experiencing uninterrupted power supply.
He said he hoped to consolidate on majority of his ongoing projects with a renewed mandate of another four years.
“That is why I’m in the palace today to solicit for your prayers and support for another four years in office,” he said.
He also disclosed that his administration in its first term had emphasised agriculture and was presently supporting lots of out growers in cassava cultivation.
He said further that poultry farming was an area of interest to him, and his administration would commit to encouraging and enlarging poultry farming in the state.
The monarch in his response appreciated the governor for his visit and offered prayers for the candidate’s success in his election bid, urging him to do more than he had done already as his achievements in office in the first term were quite visible and impressive.
The governor’s campaign team later moved towards six and seven in Ubiaja, where he enlightened the party supporters to ensure that they come out enmasse on September 19 to vote for the PDP.
