The Abia League of Professionals Initiative (ALPI), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), has received its certificate of registration from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and constituted its Board of Trustees and Steering Committee.
According to a statement by the Convener and National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Sonny Iroche, the group went through the grueling process of official registration to ensure that the organization can be run professionally, announcing General Ike Nwachukwu, a former two time Minister of Foreign Affairs and former military Governor of Imo State as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
Iroche, in the statement issued last Friday, listed other members of the Board of Trustees to include himself as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chike Ohiagu, Amb. (Mrs) Wadibia-Anyanwu, Chief Ogala Osoka, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu and Chief Uche Amajor.
Listed as members of the Steering Committee are: Iroche (Chairman), Enyi Odigbo, Mrs Udochi Iheanacho, Hon Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje, Mrs Louisa Aguiyi Ironsi-Ayonote and Chiagozie Nwokonko, among others.
He said that ALPI, which has been set up to fast-track the political, social and cultural development of Abia state, has also constituted committees, including Youths & Talent Development, Education (with emphasis on Technology and Artificial Intelligence), Health & Hospital Management, Home Land Security and Agriculture & Poverty Alleviation, among others, to prosecute the development mandate of the body.
Iroche said that the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and the wait for the incorporation of the body slowed down the pace of their activities, stressing, however, that with the receipt of their certificate of incorporation, ALPI was now set to kick-start numerous programs which will contribute to the socio-economic development of Abia State.
He said that “we need to put our hands on the plough and never look back. Great nations have been built by great men and women such as are assembled here.
“We should recognize marginalization, but not pay too much attention to such distractions. With the resources available to Abia, the creation of peace and security and an enabling environment to do business, Abia could rank a close second position to Lagos State in terms of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
“The next steps that are proposed to move us forward shall be communicated to members very soon for their input and ownership. Our main intention as NdiAbia, under the umbrella of ALPI, is the enthronement of good governance for the people of Abia and by so doing restore the dignity of not only Abians but make a statement that the black race can make it.”
